Integrating Salesforce CPQ+ with DocuSign for Secure, Streamlined Sales Processes

Salesforce CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) and DocuSign are two powerful platforms that, when integrated, can transform your sales workflow. Together, they enable faster, more accurate quoting, seamless electronic signatures, and secure handling of sensitive customer information.

What Salesforce CPQ+ Does

Salesforce CPQ+ is designed to help sales teams sell complex products quickly and accurately. Key capabilities include:

  • Product configuration: Easily create and customize bundles to meet specific customer needs.

  • Automated pricing: Apply predefined rules, discount schedules, and volume-based pricing.

  • Quote generation: Produce professional, accurate quotes in minutes, reducing the sales cycle.

  • Approval workflows: Support both serial and parallel approvals to maintain compliance while avoiding bottlenecks.

What DocuSign Does

DocuSign eSignature streamlines agreement execution and ensures legal compliance. Core features include:

  • Anywhere signing: Sign from any device, anytime, anywhere.

  • Multi-party signing: Define recipients, signing order, and rules.

  • Workflow tracking: Monitor status, manage workflows, and store signed documents securely.

  • Compliance: Meet standards such as eIDAS and UETA/ESIGN.

  • Integrations: Connect with Salesforce, NetSuite, and other platforms for seamless processes.

How to Integrate Salesforce CPQ+ with DocuSign

When integrated, Salesforce CPQ+ and DocuSign can automate the generation and signing of quotes.

Steps to connect:

  1. Install the DocuSign eSignature for Salesforce app from AppExchange into your desired org (Production or Sandbox).

  2. Create DocuSign envelope templates in Salesforce Setup → DocuSign Envelope Templates. Assign roles such as Signer 1, Signer 2, etc., to match anchor tags in your document.

  3. Set template behavior: Choose options like Default (maximum flexibility) or Quick Send (one-click sending).

  4. Build CPQ quote templates: In App LauncherQuote Templates, create templates to display company info, customer details, products, pricing, terms, and conditions. Add a signature section with DocuSign anchor tags.

  5. Test the process: Generate a quote, send via DocuSign, and verify the signing workflow. Signed documents are returned to Salesforce and stored automatically.

Securely Collecting Sensitive Information

Sometimes, agreements require sensitive customer data—like credit card details—that you don’t want stored in Salesforce. DocuSign allows you to collect this information securely.

To set up secure fields:

  1. Log in to DocuSign as an admin.

  2. Go to SettingsDocument Custom Fields.

  3. Add a field, set it as Required, and enable Hide text with asterisks to mask input.

  4. Apply validation using regex. For example:

    ^[0-9-]{15,16}\b$

ensures only numeric characters, 15–16 digits long, for credit card numbers.

  5. Use AutoPlace text to position the field on the agreement using a matching anchor tag.

Setting Up Custody Transfer Rules

By default, a DocuSign envelope is owned by the sender. Custody Transfer Rules ensure only authorized users can view agreements and their sensitive data.

To configure custody transfer:

  1. In DocuSign, navigate to SettingsCustody Transfer.

  2. Create a rule to transfer ownership of all envelopes from the sender to a designated user immediately after sending.

  3. To avoid bottlenecks, also configure sharing rules so select team members have access when needed.

Once the customer signs and provides sensitive data, you can access it in DocuSign’s Agreements tab and pass it to your payment system via export, integration, or manual transfer.

Integrating Salesforce CPQ+ with DocuSign delivers a faster, more secure, and compliant sales process. From accurate quote generation to secure collection of sensitive information, this setup empowers sales teams to close deals efficiently while maintaining customer trust.

Whether you’re streamlining approvals, protecting credit card details, or managing agreement ownership, the right configuration ensures your tools work seamlessly together—so your sales team can focus on selling, not chasing paperwork.
